COMA Media Server – Copyright Complaint Policy
Last Updated: 9 May 2026
This Copyright Complaint Policy explains how COMA Media Server ("COMA", "we", "our", or "us") handles copyright complaints, infringement reports, takedown requests, and related notices concerning use of COMA Media Server, our website, account platform, software, applications, APIs, and associated services available through comamediaserver.com.
This Policy should be read alongside our Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy.
1. COMA Is Self-Hosted Software
COMA Media Server is a self-hosted media server platform. Users install and operate COMA on their own devices, servers, storage, networks, or hosting environments.
COMA does not provide, host, upload, supply, sell, distribute, curate, or control user media content.
Users are solely responsible for all media files, metadata, libraries, streams, sharing settings, and content made available through their own COMA server installations.
2. No Authorisation of Infringement
COMA does not permit or encourage copyright infringement.
Users must only use COMA with content they legally own, have created, have licensed, or otherwise have the right to access, store, stream, or share.
Using COMA to distribute pirated, infringing, unauthorised, or unlawful content is prohibited.
3. Important Limitation
Because COMA is self-hosted software, we may not have access to, possession of, or technical control over user-hosted media files stored on private servers, home networks, third-party VPS providers, NAS devices, or other user-controlled systems.
Where content is hosted entirely by a user or third-party provider, copyright owners may need to contact the relevant server operator, hosting provider, ISP, domain provider, CDN, or law enforcement body directly.
However, where a complaint concerns use of COMA accounts, plans, public COMA services, official COMA infrastructure, or clearly identified misuse connected to COMA, we may investigate and take appropriate action where reasonably possible.
4. What We May Act On
We may review copyright complaints relating to:
- Content hosted on official COMA-controlled services, if any;
- Official COMA websites or public pages;
- Use of COMA accounts or plans to operate infringing services;
- Publicly advertised COMA servers being used for large-scale infringement;
- Misuse of COMA branding to suggest endorsement of infringing content;
- Links, listings, or references hosted on official COMA infrastructure;
- Repeated copyright abuse associated with a COMA plan or account.
5. What We May Not Be Able to Remove
We may be unable to directly remove content that is:
- Stored only on a user’s private server;
- Hosted by a third-party hosting provider;
- Available through a domain, IP address, or service not controlled by COMA;
- Shared privately between users outside official COMA infrastructure;
- Stored locally on a user’s home computer, NAS, or private network.
In such cases, we may still review whether the user’s COMA account or plan should be suspended, restricted, or revoked if our Terms or Acceptable Use Policy have been breached.
6. How to Submit a Copyright Complaint
If you believe your copyrighted work is being infringed through use of COMA or official COMA services, please send a written notice to:
Copyright Email: copyright@comamediaserver.com
Your complaint should include enough information for us to identify and investigate the issue.
7. Information to Include
Please include:
- Your full name, organisation name if applicable, and contact details;
- Confirmation that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner;
- A clear description of the copyrighted work allegedly infringed;
- The exact URL, server address, account, plan reference, public listing, screenshot, or other identifier showing where the alleged infringement appears;
- A description of why you believe the use is unauthorised;
- Any evidence linking the alleged infringement to official COMA services, a COMA account, or a COMA plan;
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate;
- Your physical or electronic signature.
8. Copyright Complaint Template
You may use the following template:
9. False or Misleading Complaints
You must not submit false, misleading, abusive, fraudulent, or bad-faith copyright complaints.
Submitting false complaints may result in rejection of the complaint, account restrictions, legal consequences, or disclosure of information where required by law.
10. Our Review Process
After receiving a copyright complaint, we may:
- Acknowledge receipt where appropriate;
- Review the information provided;
- Request further evidence or clarification;
- Assess whether the matter involves official COMA infrastructure or a COMA account/plan;
- Forward relevant details to the user where appropriate;
- Restrict, suspend, or revoke access where our Terms have been breached;
- Decline action where we do not control the content or there is insufficient evidence.
11. Possible Actions
Where appropriate, COMA may take action including:
- Removing or disabling access to content hosted on official COMA-controlled services;
- Removing links, references, or listings from official COMA websites;
- Suspending or terminating accounts;
- Suspending, revoking, or refusing renewal of plans;
- Blocking access to COMA online services;
- Reporting serious unlawful activity to relevant authorities;
- Preserving records where required for legal or security reasons.
12. Counter-Notices
If your account, plan, listing, or access is affected by a copyright complaint and you believe the complaint is mistaken, you may contact us with a written counter-notice.
Your counter-notice should include:
- Your name and contact details;
- The action taken by COMA;
- Why you believe the complaint is incorrect;
- Evidence that you own, created, licensed, or are otherwise authorised to use the content;
- A statement that the information you provide is accurate.
We may review counter-notices at our discretion and may request further information before taking any action.
13. Repeat Infringers
COMA may suspend or terminate accounts, plans, or access associated with repeated copyright infringement complaints, particularly where the complaints appear credible or where a user is using COMA to operate an infringing service.
We may also refuse future purchases, renewals, or access to COMA services where there is a history of abuse.
14. User-Hosted Servers and Third-Party Hosts
If the allegedly infringing content is hosted on a user-controlled server or third-party host, you may need to send your complaint to the relevant hosting provider, domain registrar, CDN provider, ISP, or server operator.
COMA cannot guarantee removal of content we do not host or control.
15. No Legal Advice
This Policy is provided for information only and does not constitute legal advice.
Copyright owners and users should obtain independent legal advice where necessary.
16. Privacy and Disclosure
When handling copyright complaints, we may process and share limited information where necessary to investigate, respond to, enforce our Terms, comply with law, or protect legal rights.
This may include sharing complaint details with the affected user, service providers, legal advisers, or authorities where appropriate.
17. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Copyright Complaint Policy periodically to reflect changes in law, technology, or COMA services.
Updated versions will be published on comamediaserver.com. Continued use of COMA after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
